Whats wrong with the Heat???

We all know how big a superpower Miami is. They have 3 perennial all stars in SG Dwayne Wade, PF Chris Bosh, and SF LeBron James, as well as many other talented players. Pat Riley followed the Steinbrenner philosophy in spending a lot of money to make a lot of money, or championships. But what people are intrigued by is Miami's under-achieved 12-8 record. You may ask why, well, it's the title of the post!

Miami Heat SG Dwayne Wade

Earlier this summer, Miami re-singed franchise player Dwayne Wade, who brought with him good friends Bosh and James, both all stars(James is a 2 time MVP). There was a great controversy, especially to James, since people thought it was his way of being able to win a championship. Those who thought so called it cheating, while others called it genius. Although no one ever talks about Bosh, he has only had 2 playoff appearances in his career with the Toronto Raptors. Wade is the only one of the newly-found big 3 to have won a championship, coming in 2005 with Shaquille O'Neal as his "partner in crime". The Heat defeated the Dallas Mavericks in 7 games to win the NBA championship, Miami's only.

Miami Heat SF LeBron James
Back to James, he was re-united with the state of Ohio, the one he called home for 26 years. The Hat faced the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Quicken Loans arena in Cleveland in a 188-90 blowout win. LeBron faced a crowd completely filled with booes, and no cheers. He spitefully did his talcum powder routine to antagonize the fans that once loved him, and ripped his old team apart for a season-high 38 points. They demolished the Cavaliers, led by no one in particular, and did ousted them in every important category except free throw percentage. They out-shot the Cavs, out-rebounded them, out-assissted them, they just out-everythinged them. The Heat suffocated the Cavaliers, as the Cavs actually had a higher 3 point percentage than overall shooting percentage, which just seems odd.

Ok, so here's why the Heat will continue to have problems:
1. Pat Riley let Dwayne Wade be the GM, hypothetically of course. He let Wade recruit the players rather than Riley himself. As a result, they are missing the pieces that they need, as well as the necessary salary cap.

Miami Heat PF Chris Bosh
2. The Heat never signed a true big-man. They recruited Bosh, who has never been known for his rebounding, or his defense. He lacks the ability to be an ultimate power forward/center like Lakers big-man Pau Gasol, or Magic superstar Dwight Howard. They are 3rd worst in the NBA in offenseive rebounding, 18th in total reobunding, and are 15th in blocks. Rather than having Chris Bosh, the Heat could've singed Knicks C Amar'e Stoudemire.

3. The Heat, of all the players they signed, never signed a true, established point guard. Every successful team has a successful PG. The Celtics have Rajon Rondo, the Mavericks have Jason Kidd, the Spurs have Tony Parker, the Suns have Steve Nash, the Hornets have Chris Paul, the Magic have Jameer Nelson, and the Jazz have Deron Williams. You get my point, the Heat lack the player that can run their offense and dish the ball. Mario Chalmers and Mike Miller(injured) are both 3 point shooting guards, not known for their work dishing out the rock.

4. Why is Pat Riley not head coach? The Heat have no experience with Erik Spolestra as head coach. He has never coached before he received the Miami gig 2 years ago, and runs a very simplistic offense, with no defense involved. This star-studded line-up needs a veteran coach who can bond th eplayers and make them grow as a team, and teach them how to be a cohesive unit.

My prediction for the team at the beginning of the season was 60-22. My prediction through one-quarter of the season has changed, for I now think the Heat will finish at 54-28, a 6 game difference, and finish as the 3rd seed in the Eastern Conference, and 2nd in the Southeast Division to the Orlando Magic.
